"What did you learn about romantic love from your parents or teachers when you were growing up?"
Haha, this was definitely one of those "interesting" ones. Starting off with the passage itself, as teenager studying the works of Shakespeare in school I see how the language of Song of Songs is actually very romantic and pretty interesting, to say the least. Anyways, most of you know my parents. Though they didn't teach me specifics on "how to date" or "what to do", they've definitely taught me through example HOW I should be treating the opposite gender. I've learned the basics from them: date a christian girl, no sex 'til marriage, treat her right, no dating 'til 16. So, my family reads MTB as a family, so this passage really opened up the doors to a lot of other tangental discussions. One of which is college. I'm heading off to college pretty soon, (liberty within my grasp!) but part of me is kind of scared that I won't know what to do, specifically in terms of relationships. But though my parents feel they are not adequate to educate me on the "ways of detailed dating", I believe they've taught me most of what I really need to know. The relationship should be, above all, glorifying to God, and I guess I can go into college with that in mind. Not exactly sure where I was going with this, but ah whatevers. God provided an interesting discussion for my family xD.
AHH I wish I'd think through my postings before we read them. Before I "go", I guess I'll make a comment: this relationship in Song of Songs is very beautiful, however/and sensuous. But the most beautiful part about it may be that it is God-approving, and is unashamed. When a married woman and man interact, it's a very awesome thing. What happened though? Our society and culture is completely stripping this beauty from the married relationship! Sex is no longer worth "waiting for", it's just something that happens when you feel like it. It kind of makes me angry, to see how such a marvelous thing created by God can become so degraded... As for me, I'm praying we'll kEEP HOLDING ON to what God has degreed as beautiful and lET GO of the philosophies telling us its not.

ReplyDeleteTim,
ReplyDeleteContinue praising the Lord in college! Remember to follow him, dont go to those drinking parties =) lol... Its harder in colleg,e cause your away from home, new enviormen, new church (or fellowship? I suggest IV!) Just try to keep yourself straight with God. Continuing reading your bible and worshiping God, I dont think your gonna have a problem with that!
If you have any questions about college you can ask me! =)
