One way to dig deeper into Scripture is to circle words that get repeated in a passage. The repeated words will tell us the theme or the "big idea" of the passage. In this one, I see the words "I gave" and the word "serve" repeated over and over. This tells us that God is the Great Giver. It is God's nature to give, to bless. It's not that we deserve it, it's because this is who God is. It says in ver 13, that God did it, not Israel, so we cannot take credit ofr it, but only thank and praise God. Our other response should be to "serve". Serving God means many things: reverencing, worshipping, obeying, loving. The other main idea is that it must be exclusive. We love, obey, worship only God. The last piece this passsage teaches about serving is that it must come from a heart of love, a sincere desire not from fear or a sense of duty. God odesn't force us, this must be a free choice on our part.
