Day 70- Giants

We live in an era of high anxiety. Though government and science/technology/medicine have largely reduced for us the threats of disease, war, famine, crime which plagued previous generations, most of us still face many things which challenge us, cause us worry and fear. Two of the most prescribed medicines are Zantag, and Valium. Often we experience stress as an upset stomach, Zantag deals with that. Valium is mood altering, which helps people deal with jangled nerves. But the Bible tells us we will always face giants. The things God wants to accomplish in this world are pretty awesome: bring healing, justice, peace, salvation to a broken, sin sick world. Becoming a Christian does not end the problem of fear, it can give us a whole bunch of new things to worry about.
For me, it is the unknown situation. If I have to go somewhere new, met new people, leave my comfort zone. Also, I have a fear of failure: a tendency when facing a new challenge, to doubt myself, to not risk for fear of failing.

But as we read this story we also see we don't have to give into the situation, or run away like the Children of Israel did. It's a good thing to know our opwn limitations. But it is more important to know we follow a Great God. "Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men and women. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks.” Philip Brooks

God has promised to build us up, to give us whatever we need(especially the strength and power) to accomplish the tasks God has called us to.
