"Faith" , a wise man once said is not believing without evidence (that's stupidity or gullibility) but obeying despite consequences. The Christian life is a life of faith. Usually following God makes sense, but there will be times when it on the surface won't. This is one of those times. God wanted to demonstrate divine power, a final demonstration of God's reality and superiority to the Egyptians, and God set a trap which the Pharoah fell for. But its not fun being the bait. On the other hand God is also teaching the Children of Israel what kind of God He is and what it means to be God's chosen people. God displayed His power and protection and sovereignty in an amzing unforgettable way.
At a church I was attending, a man got sick with encephalitis. This type was incurable. The man had a wife and four children. He was in a coma. Whenever the doctors brought him out of the coma, he had severe seizures. The doctors told the family there was nothing more they could do. A single mom with a lot of problems in her life had compassion for the man and his family and she had faith that God could do something. Without support of the church leaders she asked people to pray around the clock for the situation. The church prayed for 24 hours. One hour after the vigil, the man woke up, didn't have a seizure. he was healed. That experience proved to me the power of prayer and faith.
