The Ruth Story

Bible stories are like onions they have lots of layers. On the surface, Ruth/Naomi's story is a local, private drama of a single family finding salvation/redemption during a difficult time. But God is doing something bewhind the scenes which will have big consequences not just for Elimelech's family, but for all of Israel and later for the entire world. Obed is the grandfather of David, the greatest King in israel history. Many generations later Jesus, will come from the same family and save the World.

Believe that God cares about the smallest detail of our lives. That it does all matter. What if Ruth had returned to Moab, or didn't decide to glean or obey naomi? her choices, decisions mattered. Because God could take Ruth's wise compassionate decisions and providentially make them a part of a bigger plan. It was no coincidence that Ruth just happened to choose Boaz's fields, that Boaz would arrive when she was gleaning, that his workers would notice and be impressed by her. That Boaz would be compassionate, the other kinsman would drop out etc.

Be faithful in small things, trust God for the big stuff.
