Facing Our Giants

Praise be to God for bringing Pastor Dana to speak to us today at the DC campus. He spoke about "facing our giants" (i.e. Goliath as faced by David). As it happens sometimes, a song would come into my head at various times during the worship. Today, the song "Voice of Truth" by Casting Crowns came to mind. I went home to find that song on Youtube to share on a blog. But as I watched the first video, for some reason, I just bursted into tears. It pains me greatly (it actually does break my heart) when I see the various giants that stop people from realizing their true potential and purpose in life as designed by God. So many of our youths and college people, young adults, my peers and even senior citizens in our church are plagued by various giants in their lives. I've been involved in one way or another with middle/high school/college and young adults in our church for most of the 17 years I've been at Cumberland...and the story seems to be the same. People come and go...and those who are crushed by the giants far outnumber the Davids who victor over Goliath. Haunted by the temptations of the world, telling us we need this or we need that...or we're not this or we're not that...that our ears never hear the voice of Truth. Instead of enjoying the blessings of God, we chose to dwell in those things that only gives us temporary pleasures...and when those pleasures end, the consequences of dwelling there begins. There's only so much church leadership can do. As Pastor Dana said, we each need to do our part...to take those steps personally to face our giants...and know that we are facing the giants in our lives with God right next to us. In the first video, the best player on the team has already given up for the upcoming week's game. His defeated attitude is/can be contagious, even cancerous to his teammates. So the coach needed to do something...seeing how his best player has already given up. See what happens when the player is put to the task...especially when he's blindfolded so that he can't see how far he has gone. How far can we go, when we don't limit ourselves and allow God to take us way further than where we've ever been in our lives? God is always by our sides, just like the coach was to the player in the video.

The below video captured parts of the movie and incorporated Casting Crown's "Voice of Truth" into it. The video also gives you some more clips of this movie. I believe this is a movie the HS fellowship will be watching in the near future.

Don't listen to the other voices...listen to the voice of Truth...God's voice...and He will carry you all the way there! Chose to listen to the voice of TRUTH!

  1. I love this movie!!! This definitely has to be one of my top favorite movies. We all got giants in our lives, we all got stuff going on in our lives. We need to just surrender it all to God. Give up all our worries to God. I love this movie cause first I love football! lol So that really got me interested and I loved the message. That scene where he blindfold Brock and makes him do the death crawl, was the best scene in the movie! I was so amazed when I saw him at the end zone. God really just wants us to push through it. We cant go through things on our own. Thats how much we need God!

Have you seen the new movie that they made. Its called Fireproof. Its a movie about marriage. It was very good and I loved it! Even though i am not married I learned a lot from it. They wrote a book about it called The Love Dare. Its a great devotional for people! If you haven't seen you I encourage you to go watch it!
