Do you think most about God when things are going well or when you are in trouble? Honestly, I think most about God when I am in trouble. When things are good and you are content for now......then there's not much to think about. It is like you don't need to question this satisfaction. Why question it? Things are good......we are happy, no worries, no fears....no anything.
On the other hand, when things are bad, you think a lot and you ask a lot of questions. Some of us may know the answer to our own questions, some may not. For those who do, they understand.....but it is just hard to accept/apply at times. When we are down.......we look for someone to talk to, we look for guidance to help us through this situation, we need something that will bring back to our "ok." It is such a pity to think that I can't think of God equally in both states of mind. Probably, it is because for me I came to know God first when I wasn't "ok" with life. I guess every time I am down, it is just a reminder of what first led me to Him. For me, it was first knowing that I had someone to rely on when things go wrong, then seeing all the blessings that He has given me. When things do go wrong, I think of how I can make it right, how God will use this experience as a good thing, how selfish I am, how selfish people can be.....and etc. I guess questions help me think about the bad situation and see it from another perspective.
hmm.... you know how we try to look at the bad as a good, then what will happen if we look at the good as a bad? Then are we ever really happy? When you are satisfied, we don't give much thought into it. Maybe it is because we are afraid of what we might find in our "happiness". To think that maybe this happiness is a product of distractions, possessions, selfishness, greediness........etc...........hmmm......I guess the good isn't what it really seems.......i don't know XP

Hi Michelle, your mind works in very interesting ways. I like how you think a little deeper or come at things at a different angle. I guess my comment is that the Bible demonstrates that God can work in our lives in both good times and bad. This Friday let me tell you the story of the Chinese Farmer and his horse. It's very instructive. It's kind of like that worship sonf "Blessed be Your Name". Let everything in life draws us closer to God and others.
ReplyDeleteAlso about good things, Paul says God has given us everything to enjoy. God creates good things but mankind sometimes wrecks them so that they are bad. For instance God made grapes for us to enjoy. Mankind learned how to make wine out of it, which is ok for a lot of people but very destructive for alcoholics. If something is destructive or corrupts degrades then we need to keep hands off out of respect for God and the well being of ourselves and others. Also, good things can become "idols" which interfere with our relationship with God. But enjoying the good things in life accompanied by a heart of gratitude to God who has blessed us is a very good thing. Some Christians act like it's a sin to enjoy things or have fun. The Bible says there is a time for sadness, grief, but also a time to have fun and enjoy life. Our shame based culture often makes us feel guilty about enjoying life. Life is more than having a good time, but there is definitely a place for having good clean fun.
hey mark!! thanks for your comment....when i was writing the last part in my post, it was actually a fresh thought. I wasn't able to think about it thoroughly as I should had....but your examples ^ up there, made it more clear to me. It was just what I needed....examples from the Bible to help me understand this thought and why I thought of it in the first place. Thank you so much for pointing it out....o and I also can't wait for this Friday to hear your story XD
